Spain Holidays from India: Barcelona, Madrid and Andalusia
What a Spain Holiday Looks Like
A first Spain trip from India usually runs 8 to 10 days: Barcelona for Gaudí and the seafront, Madrid for the Prado and food, and Seville or Granada for Andalusia and the Alhambra. The AVE fast train links Barcelona and Madrid in about two and a half hours. April to June and September to October avoid the fierce summer heat in the south, and Spain needs a Schengen visa.
Alhambra tickets sell out weeks ahead in season, so we book them before anything else. Planning several countries? Read how many days a Europe trip needs and our Schengen visa tips for Indians.

Frequently asked questions
How many days do you need for Spain from India?
Eight to ten days is right for a first Spain holiday. That covers Barcelona and Madrid, plus Seville or Granada for Andalusia and the Alhambra. Trying to add the islands or the north as well usually means too many hotel changes, so we suggest saving Mallorca, Valencia or Bilbao for a second trip.
What is the best time to visit Spain?
April to June and September to October are the best months. You avoid the intense summer heat in the south, which makes afternoons in Seville and Granada hard going in July and August. Spring and autumn are also more pleasant for long walking days in Barcelona and Madrid.
Do Indians need a visa for Spain?
Yes, Spain is in the Schengen area, so you need a Schengen visa. If Spain is where you spend the most nights, apply to Spain; otherwise apply to the country of your longest stay. You can apply from 6 months to 15 days before travel, and the adult fee is €90.
How do you get between Barcelona, Madrid and Andalusia?
By AVE fast train. Barcelona to Madrid takes about two and a half hours, and Madrid connects onwards to Seville and the south. Book Alhambra tickets first, as they sell out weeks ahead in season; we fix that date and build the rest of the route around it.
